The aims of the Woodland Trust are to see no further loss of ancient woodland, the biodiversity of woods restored and improved, an increase in the area of new native woodland and an increase in people’s understanding and enjoyment of woodland.

For over 30 years the Woodland Trust has been saving and protecting the UK's threatened woodland heritage. They care for more than 1,000 woods, and many more desperately need protection. With climate change and development threats, protecting the future of our precious woodland is more urgent than ever. Today woodland only covers 12 percent of the UK, compared to a European average of 46 per cent. Ancient woodland is our richest wildlife habitat - one mature oak can support over 1,000 different species. Sadly, in the last 70 years nearly half of what little remained of our ancient woodland has been lost. Can your children and grandchildren still enjoy the woods you played in as a child?
